Freedom Tri athletes were out in force for a very busy Triathlon weekend.
Nina Pitcairn travelled to Zurich to compete in Ironman Switzerland. Nina finished her first Ironman distance race of 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and full marathon 26.2 mile run in a superb 13 hours and 29 min!!
Three Freedom members opted for the razzmatazz of the International Triathlon Union Dextro World Triathlon series race held in Hyde park. BTA Level 1 coach and leader/ sponsor of the “Freedom triers novice squad”, Greg Blount raced over the sprint distance of 750 m swim, 20k bike and 5k run to finish in 1 hour 38 min 26 sec. Chris Mcque and Karen Parnell both set new personal best (PB) over the Olympic Distance (1500m swim, 40k bike and 10k run), finishing in 2:37:26 and 2:58:29 respectively.
Eight of the Freedom flock took on a more local race option, and raced at the Milton Keynes Olympic distance race. Club chairman Jon Gillham came home first for the club in 2:26:58. Andi Woolass followed in a new PB of 2:27:21, with Kev Smart close behind in 2:28:38. First of the Freedom women was Penny Wylie who finished in 2:28:52, followed by Chris Yuill in 2:30:00, and Esther Hamill in 2:38:01. Dan Parker competed for the first time over the distance and finished in 2:39:00, whilst Geoff Russell impressed in the 60-64 age group, finishing in 2:42:45.
Freedom Tri are promoting/ organising a new multi sport event in North Hertfordshire. The Letchworth Garden City “Duck and Dash Aquathlon” will take place on Sunday 5th September, at Letchworth outdoor pool. The event comprises a 400m swim followed by a 5k run around Norton Common, and is open to anyone aged 18 or over on race day.
